ACHEMA: Specify Process Chilling and Cleaning Interfaces

ACHEMA’s process-industry focus is useful for buyers who must integrate chilling or cleaning equipment with pumps, valves, instrumentation and plant controls. The starting point is a shared specification covering normal duty, operating limits, wetted materials and connection requirements. Any hygienic, hazardous-area or sector-specific qualification must be established for the actual quoted configuration and installation.

ACHEMA 2022 took place on 22–26 August in Frankfurt, following postponement of its April dates. The following edition ran on 10–14 June 2024, with the next Frankfurt event scheduled for 2027. Its process-industry setting brings generation, pumping, instrumentation and plant controls into a shared equipment discussion.

What belongs in a process equipment interface specification?

  • Liquid and materials: Describe the process liquid and required wetted materials, including seals and connections. Identify compatibility questions that must be resolved before equipment selection.
  • Operating envelope: List normal and maximum pressure, permitted temperatures and available utilities. Explain startup, shutdown and any expected variation in the process duty.
  • Controls interface: State the required signals, interlocks and operating sequence. Clarify what the equipment supplier provides and what the customer’s automation team integrates.
  • Qualification evidence: Identify required documents, inspections and project-specific tests. Do not infer a certification or hygienic rating from a component photograph or exhibition category.

Engineering and procurement should use the same revision of the duty sheet. An apparent commercial difference may come from different materials, instruments or control responsibilities. Resolving those differences before ordering is more useful than comparing nominal generation capacity without the process context.

Buyer questions

Was ACHEMA 2022 held in April?

No. The organizer moved it to August; the table uses the actual held dates.

Does process-industry coverage prove pharmaceutical suitability?

No. Suitability and any required qualification need evidence for the intended configuration and application.

Can existing pumps be used?

Provide their specifications, condition and operating limits for compatibility review.

Who should review control requirements?

The equipment supplier and the buyer’s responsible process and automation teams.
